Problems arising from refilling
PROBLEM: TONER LEAKING OR DARK SPOTS ON PRINTED IMAGE
- IMPROPER RE-ASSEMBLY OF CARTRIDGE - CHECK TO MAKE SURE CARTRIDGE IS REASSEMBLED CORRECTLY - CHECK TO MAKE SURE TONER PLUG IS SEALED
- EXCESS TONER LEFT ON CARTRIDGE OR MACHINE - CLEAN OUT EXCESS TONER AROUND CARTRIDGE OR PRINTER WITH COMPRESSED AIR OR SHOP VAC
- EXCESS TONER BUILDUP IN IMAGING DRUM - USE COMPRESSED AIR OR SHOP VAC TO REMOVE EXCESS TONER IN THE IMAGING DRUM - DO NOT EXPOSE DRUM TO DIRECT LIGHT SOURCES! THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON IN PRINTERS WHERE TONER CARTRIDGES ARE PLACED ONTO DRUM UNITS. (DELL 5100/DELL 5110/OKIDATA/ETC.)
- CARTRIDGE FAILURE - DOCTOR BLADE OR DEVELOPER ROLLER MAY BE FAILING- NEED TO REPLACE CARTRIDGE. MAY HAPPEN AFTER A FEW REFILLS. CARTRIDGE WILL EVENTUALLY NEED TO BE REPLACED UNLESS YOU ARE REMANUFACTURING RATHER THAN REFILLING.
PROBLEM: TONER SPECKLES APPEARING ON PRINTS AND THE EDGE OF PAPER.
- WASTE TONER MAY BE FULL. BE SURE TO EMPTY WASTE TONER IF IT IS ATTACHED TO CARTRIDGE.

PROBLEM: AFTER REFILLING TONER COLOR IS NOT EXACT TO OEM
- ALL 4 COLORS WERE NOT REPLACED - AFTERMARKET TONER BY LAW, NEEDS TO BE A DIFFERENT CHEMICAL COMPOSITION FROM OEM. HOWEVER, OUTPUT COLOR CAN MATCH. REPLACE ALL 4 COLORS ON YOUR FIRST REFILL IF YOU OR YOUR BUSINESS IS COLOR CRITICAL. (GRAPHIC DESIGNERS/PRINT SHOPS)
- WASTE TONER CONTAMINATING NEW TONER - IF YOUR WASTE TONER IS GETTING FULL IT MAY SPILL INTO YOUR NEW TONER
- YOU MAY BE USING TONER THAT IS NOT DESIGNED FOR YOUR MACHINE - TONER IS NOT CREATED EQUAL - BE SURE TO USE REFILLS THAT ARE MADE FOR YOUR MACHINE
PROBLEM: TONER IS NOT FUSING TO THE PAPER WELL
- YOUR FUSER MAY BE FAILING
- ALL 4 COLORS WERE NOT REPLACED - SOME MODELS NEED TO HAVE ALL 4 COLORS REPLACED IN ORDER TO WORK PROPERLY (CHECK ABOVE)
- INCORRECT TONER BEING USED - BE SURE THE TONER MODEL IS CORRECT!
PROBLEM: LIGHT PRINTS
- CORONA OR LASER SOURCE MAY BE DIRTY - BE SURE TO CLEAN OFF EXCESS TONER
- DRUM MAY BE FAILING - CAN HAPPEN AROUND 15,000-20,000 PRINTS OR IF YOU PRINT HIGH VOLUMES ON HEAVY MEDIA OR STICKERS
- INCORRECT TONER BEING USED
